FOOD and drink businesses across Hambleton and Richmondshire have under two weeks left to nominate themselves for the Flavours of Herriot Awards.

Now in their eighth year, the awards focus on all of the outstanding and innovative food and drink businesses across the region and the organisers want as many new and established businesses to have the opportunity to benefit from the recognition that the awards bring.

The awards are judged by a panel of independent food and drink experts, headed by Chair of Judges Susie Brindley.

Other judges include Nigel Burton, who has worked with food giant Waitrose, Molly Shaher, catering and hospitality course leader at Middlesbrough College and Simon Jenkins, writer of two editions of The Great Leeds Pub Crawl, and author of The Yorkshire Beer Bible

A grand celebration will be held with all the finalists, sponsors and VIPs at the awards presentation ceremony at The Garden Rooms, Tennants, Leyburn, on Monday, 2 December, 2 and presented by Elly Fiorentini from BBC Radio York.

BBC Radio York Elly Fiorentini will once again host the event.

Irene Myers, Chair of the awards said…

“We are extremely proud of the awards, and how year on year it has grown and developed into one of Yorkshire’s recognised awards events.

“Our chair and panel of judges have such a wealth of experience and impressive backgrounds in the food and drink industry to contribute to the judging process.

“And we want to encourage everyone to get their entries in for the deadline, and as they say, you have to be in it to win it.

“In particular, we want head chefs and managers, to help and support their young chefs or catering students to enter the special category ‘Young Professional Chef or Catering Student of the Year’, so they get the opportunity of winning this special award to help them forward in their careers.”

The awards are supported by Hambleton District Council, North Yorkshire County Council, Richmondshire District Council, Welcome to Yorkshire, The World of James Herriot and other key sponsors.
